ENGINEERING TOOLS / THERMAL RESISTANCE
Ceramic substrate thermal resistance calculator
Estimate the through-thickness resistance of one ceramic layer and its steady-state temperature drop.
Assumes one-dimensional, uniform, steady heat flow and constant conductivity. Excludes lateral spreading, die attach, copper, interfaces, convection and radiation. It does not calculate junction temperature.
Calculation method
R = t/(k × A). The tool converts thickness in mm and area in mm² into SI units. Temperature drop across the layer is power × resistance.
How to use the result
Assumes one-dimensional, uniform, steady heat flow and constant conductivity. Excludes lateral spreading, die attach, copper, interfaces, convection and radiation. It does not calculate junction temperature.
Preset conductivity values are named product examples at 20°C from Rogers curamik data. Change conductivity for your actual grade and temperature. Read the material data notes.
